What is Bell Publishing’s Family Literacy Program?
View our video presentation. Bell Publishing Ltd. is an innovative multimedia publishing company that produces Spanish and English language supplemental curricula for classrooms, homes, and academic programs dedicated to helping children and families learn to read. Our products are grounded in academic and scientific research that is both current and relevant. We are dedicated to the education and empowerment of children and their families.

This program encourages a collaborative approach to literacy development that fosters interactive  learning among students, teachers, and families.  The program provides a research based multi-sensory experience using visual, audio, and text-based tools to enhance the learning process.

Alongside family literacy, coordinators, school administrators, parents, and caregivers will be given instructions and a workbook designed to teach the alphabetic principle along with the initial sounds within the home.  Teachers can reinforce these objectives during the school day in their lesson plans.  The parents and caregivers will be encouraged to read aloud to their children as well as perform various activities that will be outlined in the professional development sessions.

How does the program work?
Once we have identified your needs, we move forward to plan in conjunction with your school districts yearly calendar. Upon approval, we can begin giving your teachers, parents, and children the in-depth attention and training they deserve. The components of Bell Publishing's Family Literacy Program include a take-home backpack, training sessions, speaker series, a developmentally appropriate lending library, and vast online resources. We also bring in guest talent at least twice a year for a general assembly to bring fun and wholesome entertainment for the participants. Beyond these components, your staff, parents, and children will be given ongoing support through online assistance and home visits. At the closing of the program, we host a graduation for the young learners as they move on to the next year as confident readers!

Who benefits from this program?
The Alphabet Talks Early Literacy Program will provide assistance for students in kindergarten and pre-kindergarten in literacy skills, including reading comprehension and writing.

What comes in the take home backpack?
These are the components that come in the backpack:
  • A book that focuses on the initial sounds of the alphabet with 2 read-along compact discs of this book in English and Spanish.
  • Personal CD player
  • A journal
  • Crayons, glue, scissors
  • Alphabet pasta, cereal, and alphabet soup
  • Parent activity book
  • Parent response card

  • Are there any variations of this program available? Can it be customized?
One of the best things about our program, is that we work with you, not against you! We believe that every school district has different needs and limitations, and because of this, you require a custom fit and flexible solution. We have worked to fit the needs of the following districts in Texas: Donna ISD, Santa Maria ISD, Houston ISD (Isaacs Elementary), Texas Migrant Council, and Clear Creek ISD.

What research is this program based on?
This program is a derivative of brain-based research and multiple intelligence theories. You will find that we use music and movement to stimulate the synapses of a child’s brain.

What academic and family support will be provided?
Literacy assistance can take many forms, depending on the needs of the student including phonics, letter identification, and word identification. Individualized instruction, small group work, literacy workstations, and family literacy are key components of the program. The development of this program will be the responsibility of the school.

Who will provide the instructional support?
The instruction will be provided under the supervision of a qualified teacher. Teachers providing early literacy development will either already possess the necessary skills or will receive professional development support.

Which students will benefit the most from the program?
The Alphabet Talks Early Literacy Program is intended to provide timely assistance to students who are emergent or struggling readers. The program provides students, teachers, and families the resources, skills, and strategies to support successful readers.
